Healthcare Reform:
It is essential that we remember that there are many people in the healthcare community who do everything possible to provide healthcare without any limitations. There is, however, a sense of entitlement among some which is not unlike the sense of entitlement we've seen in the financial sector i.e. they are entitled to make the most money possible as long as it is at least marginally legal and the devil take the hindmost. It is most unfortunate that in every sector whether financial, medical, or welfare recipients the majority who do things right must suffer the consequence of those who are... - greedy is the only word that comes to mind. The problem of physicians becoming primarily interested in the business aspects of healthcare is very striking in Gawande's piece below. I didn't know the physicians at Mayo are on salary.
Malpractice - a lot of misinformation regarding - much of what I've seen indicates most of the costs are due to a very limited number of physicians - many cases are not won by litigants - many patients get very little for their harm - reform is needed but better analysis is also needed ---
