n.b. I greet today with a certain sadness. A good friend M... departed this life last evening. She was a member of a small group - of which we have been a part for 25 years - that met monthly for food/drink/community. She was a unique person and lived life well. Less than 2 months ago she had no apparent health problems; less than a month ago she was diagnosed with lung cancer metastasized throughout her body; and now she is gone. It brings another jolt of reality to our feeling of mortality and greater realization that we don't know what tomorrow will bring. It is also a recognition that we are in the front row. Our sympathy goes out to her family.
